Making a call in the street

A video by The 1940s House and Police Box
Step inside the box together, coins ready in your hand, and then choose.
The red telephone box on the corner. You pulled open the heavy door, lifted the receiver, put your coins in and dialled. Inside were two buttons. One you pressed when someone answered, so that the money dropped and you could talk. The other you pressed when nobody picked up, to get your coins back. Which button gave the coins back?
Say the alphabet slowly: paying came first, getting your money back came second. And who did your mum or dad ring from that box?
Answer: Button B – press it, and with luck your coins came back.
Why this game : Those two buttons were a gesture everyone made – and with them come the voices you waited to hear on the line.
