Songs
Everyone gathered round it

A video by Liam Donaldson
Take the clues one at a time and let the music come back before you answer.
At family parties, one instrument led the singing: everyone gathered round it and the old songs were taken up in chorus. Some players became stars. Winifred Atwell had the Christmas number one of 1954 with ‘Let’s Have Another Party’, and on 27 March 1959 Russ Conway reached number one with ‘Side Saddle’. Which instrument did they play?
Let your fingers run along the edge of the table, both hands at once. Then ask whether anyone played at your family parties.
Answer: The piano – Russ Conway played it on ‘Side Saddle’, number one in 1959.
Why this game : The sound of family parties comes back with that instrument – and sometimes the story of who played and who sang loudest.
